Film & Wine Series: The Career of Omar Sy

A longtime star in France, and of recent acclaim to US audiences, Omar Sy the star of Netflix's Lupin has had a storied career and extraordinary success as a trailblazer for first-generation French audiences.

The son of immigrants from west Africa, Sy was born in Trappes in the western part of the Paris metropolitan area. He rose to prominence in the sketch comedy show Service après-vente des émissions, in which he starred alongside Fred Testot. He achieved international recognition for his performance in the 2011 hit The Intouchables, winning the César award for best actor. He later divided his time between French films such as Samba and Chocolat and Hollywood productions including X-Men: Days of Future Past, Jurassic World and Transformers: The Last Knight.
